One man's waste is another man's treasure

Workers at a waste treatment plant in Chongqing love their job. Though their salaries might be meager, each month they find at least 4,000 one-yuan coins dumped in the waste.

The workers said they had even invented a machine that washes the coins, which get covered with black coal after going through the waste treatment process.

A worker surnamed Cao, however, said he has had some trouble depositing the coins in his bank account, as bank officials never believed the coins were real.

Workers said they had once found a gold necklace in the garbage.
