The 2010 conference of the K2K Forum closed on Oct 29th in Dehong, China, where China and India signed the "Dehong Conference Announcement" and reached a series of agreements concerning cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, trade, IT service, etc.
The K2K Forum is an economic cooperation forum held by the Development Research Center of the Yunnan Government and MAKA Institute of Asian Studies in India. It is the only platform set up on the province and state levels for communication between China and India. The two "K"s stand for Kunming, capital city of Yunnan, and Kolkata (Calcutta), capital city of West Bengal, and the "2" stands for "to." K2K is an abbreviation symbolizing the cooperation mechanism between the two places.
The previous five conferences were held in Kunming, Calcutta and Dali, Yunnan. Through frequent communication, more consulates have been set up in India and China and the Kunming-Calcutta air route now holds regular flights.
During the sixth conference, experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and government officials from West Bengal and the Yunnan government exchanged ideas on cooperation in transportation, tourism, trade, education, and other areas.
The year 2010 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. Both countries agree that they should take this opportunity to revitalize the K2K Forum and strengthen their mutual cooperation.
The two sides are also planning to hold the K2K International Motor Race and other cultural activities to promote friendly relations between Yunnan and West Bengal.
