Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from Fujian province arrived in Beijing on March 1 to attend the upcoming first session of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, which is set to open two days later.

2018 marks the first year of implementing the spirit of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) National Congress, the 40th anniversary of the reform and opening up, and a key year for carrying out China's 13th five-year plan by 2020, when the country will realize the goal of becoming a moderately prosperous society.

The new historic juncture brings new missions to the CPPCC, calling for better performance in political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in the deliberation and administration of state affairs.

Fujian members to the national top political advisory body are set to offer their proposals and suggestions on China's economic and social development as well as the hot issues and problems concerning the daily lives of the people based on their knowledge and working experiences.

Lin Shaobin, vice president of Fuhzou No 2 People's Hospital, who has been re-elected as a CPPCC national committee member for the third consecutive time, told the reporters that he feels very honored, adding that he will fulfill his responsibility and contribute even more good ideas and advices to the nation's reform and development.

This year, his proposals and suggestions primarily focus around issues of people's livelihoods, such as medical care, senior care, ecological protection, etc.

Li Mingrong, deputy procurator general of the Fujian Provincial Higher People's Procuratorate, another CPPCC member from the coastal province, is set to make proposals to call for more social attention and care for the minor victims in criminal cases.

Meanwhile, Xia Xianpeng, president of Xiamen Maritime Court, also a CPPCC member from Fujian, will propose his solutions to the conference in terms of distant-water fishery growth as well as marine pollution prevention.

He also summoned more support for building Xiamen into an international shipping center, considering the city's solid foundation in the sector and its increasing global recognition on the back of hosting the BRICS summit last year.

"As a CPPCC member in the new era, I will strive to be the one with new thoughts, new ideas, new achievement and new contributions," vowed Lin Shaobin.
