An office responsible for handling matters regarding the construction of a pilot free trade zone (FTZ) in Pingtan, Fujian province, became operational on Jan 5.

A 43-sq km area in Pingtan was recently included in the FTZ in Fujian province. It will be officially inaugurated by March focusing on three sectors – high-tech, the port economy and leisure tourism.

The 10-plus staffers of the Office were selected from various government departments, and divided into five teams – general affairs, trade and customs clearance, investment and industry, finance and taxation, and law and mechanism.

They will study specific policies, pilot projects and working procedures pertaining to the FTZ construction, said Liu Min, a member of the finance and taxation team.
