General Tomb

The Relics of the Koguryo Kingdom are found in and around the city of Ji'an, Jilin province at the Koguryo Kingdom site in the cities of Guonei and Wandu Mountain, which holds 14 imperial tombs and 26 other tombs. The Koguryo Dynasty (37 BC- 668 AD) was a slave-holding state on the plains around Ji’an where there are more than 10,000 tombs from that period, known as the "Tombs on the Donggou River".

King Tai Mausoleum

The grandest are the King Tai Mausoleum, the Qianqiu Tomb, and the General Tomb, a sort of "Oriental Pyramid", with each side being 31.58m in length and 12.4m in height, with a 7-step altar made of granite slabs.

Over a more than 700-year period, the Koguryo Kingdom created a splendid culture with various ethnic groups and its history and culture, with mountain cities, majestic mausoleums and tombs, and brilliant murals, have drawn attention from all over and are an important part of Chinese civilization. At the 28th session of the World Heritage Committee, on July 1, 2004, the capital cities and tombs of the Koguryo Kingdom officially joined the World Heritage List.
