NE China man and his old-fashioned shop

Now that e-commerce has grown in popularity in rural areas, one man in Jilin province in northeastern China is bucking the trend and says he wants to keep his small shop open as long as possible.

The 68-year-old Lu Zhongbing lives in in the village of Xintun near the city of Changchun, and runs a supply and marketing cooperatives, a form of retail store where it sells all sorts necessities and has owned the shop since 1998.

And his shop is not in the least bit modern, in fact a bit old-fashioned, and has nine counters and 11 wooden shelves holding all sorts of necessities for daily use and agriculture and garden tools.

In summing up his view of life, Lu comments, "I'll keep up the traditional way as long as possible, although I know there are supermarkets, department stores, and online shops, but maybe something else in the future."
