Qingdao, located on the coast of the Yellow Sea, lies in the south of Shandong Peninsula (at 35 degrees 35 minutes north latitude – 37 degrees 9 minutes north latitude and 119 degrees 30 minutes east longitude – 121 degrees 0 minutes east longitude). It faces the Republic of Korea and Japan across the sea in the east.

Administrative Division:

Qingdao currently has six districts –Shinan, Shibei, Licang, Laoshan, Huangdao and Chengyang – and four county-level cities – Jiaozhou, Jimo, Pingdu and Laixi.

Qingdao has a total area of 10,654 square kilometers, including 1,159 square kilometers of urban area.

Population:

The registered population totals to 7.64 million, including 2.76 million registered in the urban area.

Natural Environment:

As a coastal, hilly city, Qingdao has a twisted coastline dotted with capes and bays. The city’s coastline measures 863 kilometers (including a coastline of islands under its jurisdiction). Its continental coastline totals 731 kilometers and accounts for one-fourth of the total coastline of Shandong province.

Climate:

Qingdao has a temperate monsoon climate with the distinctive characteristics of a marine climate that features neither very hot summers nor cold winters. The average annual rainfall is 662mm in the city. Qingdao’s annual average temperature is 24 C in summer and 0 C in winter
