Jiaozhou Economic and Technological Development Zone was built in April, 1994, and became provincial-level development zone approved by the Shandong People's Government in December of the same year. The control area is 17.7 square kilometers, and total planning area is 9.7 square kilometers. By 2012, the zone completed investment of fixed assets of nearly 4.6 billion yuan, of which the infrastructure investment was 1.8 billion yuan. In the year of 2012, Jiaozhou development zone became a State-level development zone, and it is the second State-level zone in Qingdao.

By 2012, the zone has more than 350 regional projects in all, using $7, 800 million of foreign capital, and 4.28 billion yuan of domestic capital.
