Guanque Tower in Yongji, Shanxi province, has decided to submit a joint application for UN World Heritage status together with nine other renowned towers in China, including Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei province, and Yueyang Pavilion in Yueyang, Hunan province, according to reporters from the tourism office in Yongji on Oct 10.

The application is organized by the Chinese Historic Towers Protection Committee. At present, the tourism attraction office of Guanque Tower is preparing the application.

Guanque Tower stands on the east bank of the Yellow River, in the ancient town of Puzhou in Shanxi province. It was first established in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (AD 557-580). Due to its delicate structure and superior location, the tower is reputed as one of the four famous ancient towers in China. The other three are Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Yueyang Pavilion in Yueyang and Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang.

Detailed arrangements will be discussed at the 2012 Mayor Forum of Cities with Historic Towers and the ninth Annual Meeting of the Renowned Tower held in Changsha, capital of Hunan province from Nov 2 to 4. Ten cities with historic towers, such as Nanchang, Yueyang and Wuhan will be present to discuss the joint application and how to establish a culture brand for renowned historic towers, reported Sanjin City News.
