A solo exhibition by Taiwan painter Jiang Mingxian opened at a Taiyuan-based gallery in Shanxi province on Nov 6. The exhibition will last for nine days and closes on Nov 14, Taiyuan Evening News reported.

Jiang Mingxian, the celebrated Taiwan painter, is the vice president of the Taiwan academy of arts, and has been the council member and researcher of the China National Academy of Painting since 2011. He has been widely known in the Chinese mainland since 1988, when his solo exhibition was first held here.

Among the 48 pieces on display, the most eye-catching one is the 66-meter-long New Fu Chun Shan Ju Tu which Jiang himself alone finished in a year. Fu Chun Shan Ju Tu is a painting originally created by Huang Gongwang in the Yuan Dynasty (1270-1368). It depicts the early autumn on the Fuchun River surrounded by chains of picturesque mountains and peaks and luxurious, evenly-dispersed trees.

All of the exhibits are themed around natural landscapes, folk customs and historical buildings across the Straits. One-fifth were created around Shanxi’s natural scenes and historical heritage, represented by paintings such as The Old Town of Pingyao, Mount Taihang, Mount Wutai, Yungang Grottoes, Qiao’s Compound, Looking Up to the Suspended Monastery, Mount Hengshan with Dancing Pine Trees, and Wangmangling.

According to Jiang, the reason why he held his solo exhibition in Shanxi is that he had been deeply attracted by the beautiful scenery and elaborate buildings there. He found inspiration when he saw Qiao's Compound, the Old Town of Pingyao, Mount Wutai and other Shanxi landscapes and architecture.

Taiyuan is the first stop of the global tour for Jiang Mingxian's solo exhibition. After the display in Taiyuan, Jiang’s exhibition will tour other cities of China and then go abroad.

On the afternoon of Nov 6, a workshop was initiated in Taiyuan-based Shanxi University to appreciate Jiang’s works. Jiang Mingxian and some local painters in Shanxi exchanged ideas on the development of Chinese ink paintings and the charisma of Shanxi’s natural and cultural heritage.
