The new terminal building at Yungang airport, in the city of Datong, Shanxi province, opened for preliminary operations, on Jan 1, now that the airport expansion project has been completed.

The expansion work was part of a key provincial and municipal project, which began in May 2010. In December 2012, it was declared ready for use. The new terminal covers a 10,800-square-meter space, and cost 336.8 million yuan. Its annual passengers throughout is expected to be 900000, and goods throughout, 4,700 tons. It will also improve the airport’s overall service and support ability, and provide a more comfortable environment for travelers.
