A tourist survey of 60 Chinese cities, for the third quarter of 2013, done by the China Tourism Research Institute, has the city of Datong, Shanxi province, in 19th place.
 
There was a cultural exchange between Oroqen Autonomous Banner, of the Inner Mongolia region and the city of Datong, Shanxi province Dec 7 - 9.

The city of Datong's landscaping bureau announced its plans for building a park beside the old north part of the city wall, on Nov 26, covering on an area of 530,000 square meters.
 
The city of Datong has seen some success after coming up with its green development vision this past year and has increased its green area by 1.77 million square meters, with a green coverage of 43.3 percent, up by 1.64 percentage points.
 
The 3rd Datong Network Singing Competition, which opened on Nov 19, pulled in more than 3,000 singers from across the country.
 
This year, the Culture Forum has visited schools and has asked students to donate books, with students at 23 elementary and experimental primary schools in Chengqu responding with nearly 10,000 books.
