Two overseas students studying at Shandong University recently got the chance to experience traditional Chinese tea culture at a tea house named "Shao Ye Tang" in Jinan, East China's Shandong province.

Upon arriving at the tea house, Yu Mo from Mexico and An Hailun from Germany, were impressed by the delicate wooden architecture of the century-old building. The building's nameplate dates back to the reign of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Inside, an expert tea maker demonstrated how traditional Chinese tea is brewed as well as some tea-making etiquette. The students learned some interesting tidbits, such as that Chinese people only fill their cup two thirds of the way to the top as a sign of respect and friendship.

The two students then had a go at making a cup of tea for themselves, pleasing the teacher with their results.

"My mom will be envious of me making Chinese tea in such a beautiful tea house," An said.

Yu also remarked that he would buy a tea set so that he could make the perfect brew for his family and friends.
