Computer maker Lenovo is looking for 20 torchbearers among its customers in China and will in 20 days select the winners from some 20,000 applicants.
The Chinese IT powerhouse, one of the top partners of the 2008 Olympic Games torch relay, recently named eight expat torchbearers living in China after a lengthy online vote on www.gdqibao.cn(http://www.gdqibao.cn/olympics/torch_page.html)
The new campaign, "Share the Olympic Glory," got under way on September 1 in cooperation with IT portal PConline. It targets Lenovo customers who play a model role in their workplaces.
"I hope the 20 Lenovo-nominated torchbearers will have an unforgettable experience next year and share the Olympic honors with other users," Chen Shaopeng, vice-president of Lenovo Group, said during the launching ceremony.
Notable figures at the ceremony included Lu Lin, who won a men's table tennis doubles gold medal with Wang Tao at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Lenovo will also provide 1,000 Olympic tickets to its loyal customers and will organize tours to the Good Luck Olympic test events as another prize.
The campaign will move on to other major cities in China including Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
The 2008 torch relay will feature 21,880 torchbearers covering a 137,000 km route that spans the globe and even takes in the world's highest peak, Mount Qomolangma.
