A domestically produced TV drama set during the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945) was temporarily banned from broadcasting, after online criticism of one of its love scenes. In the scene, a woman hides a grenade in her pants while visiting a Japanese prison, setting it off later, which was widely slammed for the sexual innuendo. Comments:

The use of fiction in a teleplay is totally acceptable, but it should never be exploited with sex or murder when the story is trying to depict the enduring anti-fascist war that needs to be treated seriously. Wartime history deserves respect instead of being distorted in a titillating way.

The aforementioned television series has shown nothing but a repugnant attitude toward China's hard-won and respectful victory against the Japanese aggression seven decades ago. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the struggle this year, China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television should impose a ban on such ill-made programs and urge all directors to show more respect to history.
