The 2.22-meter high school student from Harbin was diagnosed with congenital dislocation of hip and rejected by team Jiangsu while preparing for next year's national games after being found unable to endure intense training earlier this year. Yao, now training with team Jilin, plays center and is being compared to retired 2.26-meter basketball legend Yao Ming. A Jiangsu coach said it was a pity to lose Yao Haoyan, as the boy was talented in all aspects except for the medical problem.
