A woman gave birth to identical triplets through cesarean section at the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province, on Sept 6.

The mother of the new trio, Lu Li, said that such multiple births are unprecedented in her family and the rate of identical triplets is even lower than one in a million.

The second baby delivered is currently in intensive care at the neonatal care unit, weighing 1.9kg, while the other two weigh 2.5kg and 2.6kg.

32-year-old Lu is already a mother of a 12-year-old girl. She was informed that she would be conceiving triplets after being pregnant for over three months. Since then, under the guidance of Zhao Xiaosu, head of the obstetrics department, Lu had taken regular inspections in hospital and kept a nutritious diet, staying fit throughout the pregnancy.

Around the 37th week of her pregnancy, she suffered a premature rupture of her fetal membranes and gave birth to the adorable triplets with the help of doctors through a cesarean delivery. However, despite the elation of welcoming the new lives into the world, Lu says she is concerned about the increased living burden from raising them.
