NEW DELHI -- India says the accused gunman being held in connection with the Mumbai attacks has asked to meet with Pakistani diplomats.

Indian police said Mohammed Ajmal Amir Iman, the lone surviving gunman involved in the deadly attacks in Mumbai, has written to the Pakistan High Commission seeking legal help. [Agencies]

The Foreign Ministry says suspect Mohammed Ajmal Kasab has written a letter stating that he and nine other militants involved in the attacks were all Pakistani citizens. Kasab is the only accused gunman to survive the three-day standoff with police.

Pakistan High Commission spokesman Abid Saeed says the letter requesting a meeting with Pakistani authorities was handed over to the acting high commissioner Monday and was being examined.

Ten accused Islamic militants stormed into buildings across India's commercial capital on Nov. 26. More than 160 people were killed in the rampage and siege that followed.
