US House Speaker meets Afghan president

KABUL -- US House of Representative Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in the Afghan capital of Kabul in an unannounced visit on Saturday and held a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

However, officials in Kabul did not say anything about the issues under discussion in the meeting.

Pelosi's visit to Afghanistan took place days after US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrook visited Islamabad and Kabul.
