Syria condemns terrorist attack in southeast Iran

DAMASCUS: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday strongly condemned the bloody terrorist attack in southeast Iran on Sunday, which killed more than 40 people and injured dozens others, the Syrian state-run news agency SANA reported.

In a cable to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Assad strongly condemned the terrorist attack, stressing that Syria firmly supports all the international efforts in combating all kinds of terrorism.

Assad also expressed his "heartfelt condolences" to the victims of the attack and their families.

Early on Sunday, a deadly bomb attack occurred in Iran's southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan near Iran's border with Pakistan, killing 45 people, including a number of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commanders, and wounded dozens others.

The Sunni rebel group Jundallah (God's soldiers) has claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide attack.

Iran's high-ranking officials on Sunday attributed the suicide attack to the hostility of the Islamic Republic's enemies, while IRGC Chief Commander Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari said the United States, Britain and Pakistan are aiding the Jundallah terrorist rebels.

"There are some proof available saying that the wicked grouplet (of Jundallah) is aided by the intelligence services of the United States, Britain and unfortunately by Pakistan. It (Jundallah) implements its plots by their orders," Jafari was quoted by the semi-official Fars news agency as saying on Monday.
