KHARTOUM - Sudan's ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Monday condemned the mortar shells attack by an armed group belonging to Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/ northern sector on Kadogli, capital of South Kordofan State, official SUNA news agency reported.

"The party strongly condemns the attack carried out by gunmen belonging to the SPLM/northern sector in Kadogli," the agency quoted Badr-Eddin Ibrahim, NCP spokesman, as saying.

"The attack against Kadogli represents a negative message by trends that are unwilling to resolve South Kordofan's issues and affirms that those rebel groups are not keen on peace and stability in the state," he added.

He further reiterated the ability of the Sudanese armed forces to end the rebellion, noting that the armed forces would immediately embark on ending all security disorders and cleaning the Sudanese territories from the rebels.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim excluded that the incident would affect on the cooperation agreement recently signed between Sudan and South Sudan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, holding the rebel movements responsible for hampering the peace efforts and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region.

He stressed the importance of translating the items of the security arrangements with South Sudan into the ground, saying the implementation of those arrangements, namely breaking the link between the south and the rebel groups, would resolve all the issues.

In September, Sudan and South Sudan signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, three deals on cooperation, security, and post-secession.

Gunmen belonging to the SPLM/northern sector on Monday attacked Kadogli, capital of South Kordofan State, killing six civilians and wounding 22 others, according to the latest statistics.

South Kordofan State has been witnessing armed clashes between the Sudanese army and the SPLM/ northern sector since last year.
